The
IDEAS Tool

At the centerpiece of the HITEC correction workers program is
The Intervention Design and Analysis Scorecard (IDEAS) Tool.

This is a proven seven-step process developed through the Center For the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW). Using the IDEAS Tool will identify the root causes of a problem, review contributing factors to the problem, and guide teams of workers as they design solutions for their health, safety and well-being.  Due to the programmatic success of this business-constructed model and the positive evidenced-based research in corrections, training programs and assistance from qualified HITEC UConn Advisors continue to support the agency-wide education of the tool within all levels at the CT DOC. The IDEAS process has been customized for the corrections setting and culture, with the goal of engaging front-line workers.

IDEAS Tool Steps illustrated in YouTube videos

Training videos for each IDEAS Step provide an in-depth review of each step activity written by the original developers of the tool at CPH-NEW. Facilitators are encouraged to view each video before starting each step with their Design Teams. The HITEC version of the IDEAS Tool has been customized for corrections however the videos will help to build a foundation to understand the process.
